Landscape Boulder Setting
Saturday, Oct 7, 8:00 am – Noon, Fee $40.00 Learn the art of boulder setting with Masa Mizuno, a highly-respected master of Japanese garden cultivation. This workshop is intended to train your eye to view and then place boulders in an artistic way. Masa has worked for decades with established Japanese gardens throughout the Pacific Northwest, and has led his own landscape design/install firm for over 30 years. This class will be held in Canby, Oregon. It is a hands-on class and participants will be working outdoors with boulders. Wear appropriate clothing, closed-toed shoes and bring gloves. This class is limited to 12 students, so register early to reserve your spot! LCB 4 CEU

Instalación y Mantenimiento del Sistema de Riego Paisajístico en Español

Foundations of Irrigation Design
Two-day class on Friday, Nov 3, 8 AM-5 PM and Saturday Nov 4, 8 AM-5 PM, Fee $160. Take your landscape designs to the next level by learning fundamentals of irrigation design. Developed by Irrigation Association instructors with years of teaching experience, this beginner reference focuses on designing a simple residential or small commercial system. LCB 16 CEH, IA 16 CEU

Japanese Style Pruning
Saturday, Nov 4, 8-11:50 AM, at off-site location, Fee $40. Learn the art of Japanese Pruning with Masa Mizuno, a highly-respected master of Japanese garden cultivation. This is a hands-on class, so please bring your own gloves and pruning tools. Limited enrollment—class fills quickly. LCB 4 CEH

Pesticide Core Training/Fall
Friday, Nov 17, 8 AM-12 PM, Fee $40. This training qualifies for 4 CORE recertification credits as required by Oregon Department of Agriculture. ODA 4 CORE CEU; LCB 4 CEH

Licencia de Aplicador Aprendiz Recertificación, Español

Deciduous Tree and Shrub Identification
Saturday, Dec 2, 9 AM-Noon, Fee $20. Join us for a morning of plant awareness. We’ll start in the classroom, discussing features of some major plant families and locally grown genera and species of plants. We’ll enjoy a stroll around the Oregon City campus looking at deciduous plants and trees and how they’re used in our landscape. We’ll finish with a low-stakes quiz to see if you can identify all 30 samples we’ve talked about in the last few hours. You’ll be provided with an internet link to the walk we took, showing the location and names of the plants we discussed. LCB 3 CEH

Seeking an Oregon Landscape Contractors Board License?

We, at the Clackamas Community College Horticulture department, can help!!

The following credit classes will help you with phases of the landscape professional license:

Fall Term September-December 2023:

  • HOR-226 Plant Identification series of classes throughout the year are great for the Plants and Turf exam.
  • HOR-224 Landscape Installation Provides an overview of the LCB exam and requirements. The LCB usually comes to CCC as a guest speaker to answer questions. The class covers many of the topics on the Hardscaping and Design, Grading & Drainage exams.
  • WET-109 Backflow Tester class is a week-long (M-F 8am-5pm) class that is usually offered every term. Taking this class qualifies you to sit for the LCB exam and will help with the Irrigation plus Backflow portion.

Winter Term January-March 2024:

  • HOR-227 Plant Identification series of classes throughout the year are great for the Plants and Turf exam.
  • HOR-231 Irrigation Design will help with the Irrigation plus Backflow portion of the LCB exam.
  • WET-109 Backflow Tester class is a week-long (M-F 8am-5pm) class that is usually offered every term. Taking this class qualifies you to sit for the LCB exam and will help with the Irrigation plus Backflow portion.
  • HOR-229 Intro to Landscape Design helps with the Design, Grading & Drainage exam.

Spring Term April-June 2024:

  • HOR-228 Plant Identification series of classes throughout the year are great for the Plants and Turf exam.
  • HOR 140 Soils This foundational class helps with many exam sections but is most applicable to the Design, Grading & Drainage exam.
  • WET-109 Backflow Tester class is a week-long (M-F 8am-5pm) class that is usually offered every term. Taking this class qualifies you to sit for the LCB exam and will help with the Irrigation plus Backflow portion.

We recommend that you talk with the Licensing Specialist at the Landscape Contractors Board. They can help answer any questions you have about getting registered for and taking the LCB exams. Once you qualify to sit for the exam and register to take it, they will send you a packet with study materials. Contact them at 503-967-6291 Ext.221
